  96. the package and its features, along with instructions for its
  97. installation.  Quite detailed documentation is included in the package,
  98. but it is in archived form, and is more easily read after installation.

  101. or a click of a mouse, then HDM is the program for you...

  103. HDM is a shareware program.  This evaluation version includes all
  104. features of the program, and is not crippled in any way.  You may use it
  105. for up to 30 days, without charge (see HDM.DOC for more details).  If
  106. you like the program, and wish to continue its use after this evaluation
  107. period, you are required to pay for the program (see REGISTER.DOC for
  108. more details).  Any fee you may have paid to others (disk vendors,
  109. dealers, etc.) to obtain this evaluation version was a fee for their

  136. ===== Installation =====================================
  137.  
  138. The installation procedure for the Hard Disk Menu (HDM) is quite simple.
  139. The package includes a program, "INSTALL.EXE", which automates the
  140. entire process.  You will need about 800K of available disk space on the
  141. hard drive on which you plan to install HDM.
  142.  
  143. The exact steps you need to take will depend on how you received HDM.
  144.  
  145.  
  146. INSTALLING FROM DISKETTES
  147.  
  148. To install from diskette(s), you need to perform the following steps.
  149.  
  150.    o  Place the HDM distribution diskette in the appropriate diskette
  151.       drive.
  152.  
  153.    o  Execute the "INSTALL.EXE" program on the distribution diskette.
  154.       For example, if the distribution diskette is on drive A:, type
  155.       the MS-DOS command, "a:install".
  156.  
  157.    o  Follow the instructions presented by the installation program.
  158.       You will have a chance to approve installation before any changes
  159.       are actually made to the contents of your hard drive.  The program
  160.       will ask you for a destination directory, and will copy the HDM
  161.       files to that directory. If you so direct it, the installation
  162.       program will install executable programs and documentation in
  163.       other directories of your choice.  It will make no other changes;
  164.       specifically, it will not modify your autoexec.bat (unless you
  165.       allow it) or config.sys files.

  168. INSTALLING FROM A HARD DRIVE
  169.  
  170. If you downloaded HDM from a BBS (or received it in the form of archive
  171. files from some other source), you will need to perform the following
  172. steps.
  173.  
  174.    o  Extract the contents of the archive file(s) in a temporary
  175.       directory on your hard drive.  The procedure for doing this
  176.       varies, depending on the form in which you received the package.
  177.       In all likelihood, the fact that you are reading this text means
  178.       that you already have the necessary tools and knowledge to
  179.       perform this step.  If not, you should be able to obtain
  180.       directions for this from the same source from which you received
  181.       the package.
  182.  
  183.    o  Execute the "INSTALL.EXE" program which you have extracted.  For
  184.       example, if the temporary directory into which you have extracted
  185.       the HDM package is C:\TEMPDIR, you would execute the MS-DOS
  186.       command, "c:\tempdir\install".

  188.    o  Follow the instructions presented by the installation program.
  189.       You will have a chance to approve installation before any changes

  205. Once you've complete the installation, you should consult the documents
  206. (filename extension "doc") which have been installed.  In particular,
  207. read at least the "Installing and Starting HDM" and "Using HDM" sections
  208. of the file "HDM.DOC".  That document will tell you how to invoke the
  209. program, and will give you other information you need to properly
  210. evaluate HDM.  We hope you enjoy the program.
